RECORD BREAKING,10K'S, HALF MARATHONS & LOTS OF PARK RUNS

Lloyd Worsley broke the course record this weekend at the Stelling Minnis 10k in the fantastic time of 33 minutes and 41 seconds.  Nick Steele was the next Folkestone Runner home in a time of 38:17, followed by Catherine O’Connor (46:21), Richard Fowles (46:44), Anthony Scott (49:38), Linda Smith (50:39), Gail Turbutt (51:58) and Lisa Smith (1:00:11)

Anthony Scott also ran at the Bewl Water Half Marathon on Saturday in a time of 1:56:17   The Half Marathon takes place at the Bewl Reservoir, Lamberhurst in the heart of the Kent Countryside and takes in forested areas and open countryside over the 13.1 mile course.

Meanwhile, in the scorching 30 degree heat of the Balkans, Andrew Noble and Caroline Curtis ran the Banjaluka Half Marathon in the times of 1:31:56 and 1:44:50 respectively.  Caroline was 15th female and 4th in her age category.  Andrew came 40th male and 5th in his age category.

We have had 22 new members join as a result of the Park Bench to Park Run and some of these are now taking part every week in the park run at Folkestone.   Some are also going on to run the Folkestone Coastal 10k thanks to the constant encouragement from Julie and Malcolm Gibbs and the support from the rest of the club.

There were lots of different parkruns this week.  At the Folkestone home run David Gillett came second man in a time of 17:56 and Deborah Jeffery came first woman in a time of 20:04  Other runners were Jean Paul Jeffery (18:53), Tim Warren (19:12), Levi Atwell (19:18), Joe Bruce (20:19), Simon Coffey (20:28), David Weekes (21:40), Andrew Richardson (21:47), Benjamin Jeffery (22:13), Brian Davis (22:48), Jordan Mosses (23:20), Deirdre Coombs (24:58), Vicky Scott (25:17), Bethanie Lewis  (27:26), Carolyn Lewis (28:36), Caron Inder got a new PB in a time of 29:21,New Member PB2PR Hayley Kluczynski also got a PB in a time of 30:27, Natacha Brouart (38:59), Ileana Fernandes (39:27), Angela Saunders (41:35) and Richard Dyer (45:21)

At Malling parkrun Alan Randall was first Folkestone runner to finish the 5km course around Leybourne Lakes in a time of 24:55 followed by Malcolm Gibbs (25:17), Jane Wren (25:29) and Julie Gibbs (28:16) 

At Ashford Alan Vigrass completed the course in a time of 24:33 whilst at Pegwell Bay, Paul Bartlett went sub 20 minutes in time of 19:58

Further afield in Glasgow Pamela and Clive Allon ran in a time of 31:23 and 31:24 respectively.

The furthest away this week was Stephen King who ran the Warszawa-Praga event in a time of 31:13

About Us

Folkestone Running Club is a small friendly club for runners aged from 13 years (or Year 8), upwards and ability ranging from elite to those that run less competitively, in Folkestone and surrounding areas in Kent. We also have a partnership club Folkestone Running Club Juniors for the under 13 age group. 

*Please note we are unable to take on any new junior members (13+) until Spring 2018 as we have reached full capacity. 

All adults wishing to join should be capable of running a 5k and be willing/able to join in the workout sessions put on by the coaches.
