Folkestone Coastal 10k and Littlestone Lifeboat 10k

It was another busy Bank Holiday weekend for our Folkestone Runners as many took part in the Folkestone Coastal 10k.  There were some great times recorded by FRC as Adrian Mussett from Colchester Harriers won the race in 32.44, whilst Sittingbourne's Sarah Gruber was first lady home in 40.22.  The men missed out by a single point to rivals South Kent Harriers in the team event as Andy Fletcher secured fifth place in a time of 35.38.  David Gillett wasn't too far behind as he finished 8th in 35.52, whilst Phil Hoyland also had a great run, earning a PB himself as he finished 12th in 36.53.  Mark Ellerby was 16th, as he also recorded a PB time of 37.56.

Darren Crew recorded a PB time of 43.45, just ahead of team mates Andy Noble who ran 44.05 and Aldous Hosking who ran a PB time of 44.07.  Deborah Jeffery was our first Folkestone lady home (and an impressive 4th lady overall) as she also recorded her best time of 44.31.  Jon Mihr had a good run in 44.34, whilst Geoff Kaile (45.26) and Barry Hogben (45.35) crossed the line pretty much together.  Steve King used the race as part of his half iron man training, his time to be confirmed.

Susan Walbrook ran her best 10k ever as she was 2nd Folkestone lady in a time of 46.54, whilst Lesley Delea (47.07) and Catherine O'Connor (47.39) were not too far behind her.  Jody Stoakes got a sub-50 10k as she ran 49.48 and there were also good runs from Laura Segust (53.28) and Julie Gibbs (54.57) who was just seconds away from her time in the same race last year.  Jenny Whitehead was next as she ran a PB time of 53.36 in Folkestone colours and Jo Peers ran 54.54, whilst Lynne Page was a massive 8 minutes quicker than her last 10k time as she ran 55.32.  Lucy Weekes (59.48) and Yvonne White (70.44) made up the rest of the Folkestone runners.

On Friday evening two members took part in the annual Littlestone Lifeboat 10k in aid of R.N.L.I.  Chris Woolgar got around in 45.18 in 23rd place, whilst Faith Cowell completed the course in 43rd place with a time of 52.22.  On Saturday, Andy Noble and Caroline Curtis made the long trip up north to run the first Cleethorpes parkrun.  Andy is clearly fighting back well from injury with a great time of 20.26, whilst Caroline also enjoyed her run of 23.30.  More locally Zoe Neale was first lady home in the Ashford parkrun as she also battles her way back to fitness.  She ran a time of 23.34, whilst Brian Davis also ran 20.51 along with Mick James (21.34) and Louise Fowler (32.21).

It was also a busy weekend for many of our members that were not running!  Of course many marshalled and supported the Coastal 10k, but there was also a big representation in Ashford at the Julie Rose Stadium in the Kent Track and Field Championships.  Five members from our senior club participated as trainee officials for the event.  Grahame and Tina Eke, along with Catherine O'Connor assisted with the track events, whilst Chris Woolgar and Emma Long helped out with the field events in what was a very busy weekend!  Our junior club were also represented by our members which included Rob and Samantha Burke.

Please let me know if I have missed anyone!  There was a lot to go through this week! (tim@folkestonerunningclub.co.uk)
