Girlings Ashford & District 10k and the rest of the action

The report this week has been written by new club member Jane Wren.

20 members of Folkestone Running Club competed in the popular Ashford & District 10k road race this weekend.  Lloyd Worsley finished in second place out of 564 runners with a fantastic sprint to the finish line and a time of 32 mins 46 secs.  The men took the team prize Lloyd Worsley, Andrew Fletcher (35:23) and Nick Steele (36:49).  Fourth man home was Simon Coffey in a time of 41:39 followed by David Smyth (42:53) Chris Woolgar (45:00) Anthony Scott (45:12) and Alan Randall (51:41).

Nikki Goodwin was the first Folkestone lady over the line in a time of 42 mins 28 secs and the ladies also won the 1st team home trophy - Nikki Goodwin, Karen Puttock (43:24) and junior Emily Chambers (43:54)  Fourth lady back was Jane Wren who completed the course in 50:08 ahead of Catherine O'Connor (51:32), Jennifer Quinn (52:26), Deirdre Coombs (54:06), Laura Segust (54:49), Louise Fowler (58:20), Lisa Smith (58:39), Claire Yates (1:04:06) and Kate Lancefield (1:12:25).  Deirdre Coombs also won a trophy for coming first in the V60 ladies category. 

There was also the Parkrunners at the weekend.   Aldous Hosking  ran at Ashford, Victoria Park in a time of 22:41  and at Folkestone there were 21 runners including Deborah Jeffery who was first lady home in a time of 20:14   Jean Paul Jeffery completed the 5k course in 19:51 followed by Simon Coffey (20:12), Deborah Jeffery, Caroline Curtis (22:04),  Tracy Wilkinson-Begg (22:17), Andrew Richardson (22:25), Andrew Smith (23:28), Brian Davis (23:48), Alan Vigrass (24:12), David Walbrook (24:28), Malcolm Gibbs (25:14), Lloyd Worsley (25:24), Leah Atwell (25:34), Richard Dyer (25:43), Jenny Whitehead (25:57), John O'Hara (26:01), Louise Fowler (29:14), Alfie Lancefield (48:32), Abigail Smith (48:33), Kate Lancefield (48:41), Lisa Smith (48:57)

On Saturday, Morgan West, Charlotte Avery and James Stroud represented Kent in the South-East Schools Intercounties cross country event at Brands Hatch. Morgan West (Intermediate Boys) ran 5.5k in 19.43 and finished 58th out of 89 Charlotte Avery (Senior Girls) ran 4.4k in 18.35 and finished 38th out of 64 James Stroud (Senior Boys) ran 6.5k in 23:14 and finished 43rd out of 80.  Well done to all.

The parkbench to park run training programme run by qualified coaches from Folkestone Running Club is still going well with 40 regular beginners training for Folkestone park run on 1st April 2017.

About Us

Folkestone Running Club is a small friendly club for runners with ability ranging from elite to those that run less competitively, in Folkestone and surrounding areas in Kent. We also have a partnership club Folkestone Running Club Juniors for the under 13 age group. 

All adults wishing to join should be capable of running a 5k and be willing/able to join in the workout sessions put on by the coaches.
