Thanks to Jane and Tina for the following.....
Nine club members took part in Saturday’s English National XC Championships which this year were held at Woolaton Park in Nottingham. As in 2014, the hosts Notts AC organised a fantastic challenging course with plenty of water and boggy obstacles to tackle. The ladies were first to race the 8k course with a field of 788 taking part. Gail Turbutt lead the way for the team finishing in 552nd place in a time of 44.13. Next was Catherine O'Connor in 639th place in 47.01. Then Jenny Raymond, 735th in 51.59, Margaret Whitham just three weeks after celebrating her 60th birthday completed her first ever XC race in 764th place in a time of 56.40. Tina Eke finished in 767th place in a time of 57.20. The team finished in 92nd place.
The men had an even bigger challenge with 12k to run on the course which was now at peak muddiness! Despite this the men rose to the challenge with Nick Steele first club member home in 651st place in a time of 50.58, then Andy Noble, 867th in 53.28, Simon Coffey, 1025th in 55.29 and Grahame Eke, 1720th in a time of 73.56. The men’s race consisted of a staggering 1762 runners! Thank you to all of our runners for undertaking the long journey to Nottingham and to our lovely supporters Emma and James Long and Caroline Curtis for cheering so loud. Here's looking forward to next season and even more club members taking part in this fantastic event!
