Folkestone Running Club Junior Athletes had success again in the Sportshall competition, as they won the final meeting of the season at Sittingbourne. The under 11 team of Emmanuel Virginie, Grace Norman, Maisie Riddell and Joshua Evans won by 9 points over 2nd place Paddock Wood, beating 23 other teams from all over Kent. This bodes well for FRC Athlete's in the summer track & field season as they join up with Paddock Wood as a composite team in the Kent Young Athletes League.
For the under 15 girls Katie Lacey & Caitlin Gallagher were amongst the team that won their competition, whilst the under 13 boys and girls all achieved at least one PB each, with many achieving several. Competing for Folkestone RC were under 13 girl's Libby Johnson, Macey Forster, Lydia Stanton, Ellie Burke, Libby Turbutt, Bella Reina and Catrina MacArthur, whilst for the under 13 boys Nathaniel Ryan, Bill Norman & Jack Doubtfire all participated.
There were also mixed under 11 teams comprising of Caitlin Taylor, Savannah Chetty, Charlie Goodwin, Teyen Ambler, Lily Monlouis, Emily McKenzie, Harvey Burke and Jordan McCosh.
In the previous week, there was also success for the Kent under 11 girls team which included Folkestone Running Club athletes Caitlin Taylor, Maisie Riddell and Grace Norman who helped the team win against 7 other counties in the Fun in Athletics Regional Final. Emmanuel Virginie who also represented Kent under 11 boys achieved silver medals against the same 7 counties.
This Saturday six Folkestone athletes are representing Kent in the Regional Sportshall Championship Finals at Burgess Hill. Katie Lacey and Caitlin Gallagher for the under 15’s and Nathaniel Ryan, Bill Norman, Libby Turbutt and Catrina MacArthur from the under 13’s.
It has been a very successful sportshall season for Folkestone RC Athlete's and we are looking forward to taking these and many other talented athletes into the track & field season this spring/summer.
