Paddock Wood Half and Park Bench to parkrun

As many of our Folkestone runners come to the end of their spring marathon training, six of our members represented the club in the Paddock Wood half marathon at the weekend, as they used the most of the training in their legs to get home in excellent times.  Lloyd Worsley managed to beat his time from Lydd only a few weeks ago to finish in an amazing 14th position with a time of 1.12.22.  David Gillett was able to shave time of his previous best as he ran 1.17.28 in 59th position  David Weekes also had a solid run to go sub 1.20 and finish with a time of 1.19.44 earning a silver Kent Champs medal in the process, whilst Andrew Noble was another to PB as he ran 1.24.40.  Catherine O’Connor got around the Kent course in a time of 1.41.23 and last but not least, Laura Ballard had a cracking run to earn herself a PB as she clocked a time of 1.48.28.

Elsewhere Anthony Scott didn’t let missing out on a Paddock Wood place hamper him, by finding another half instead!  This time Tony ran the Lee Valley Run Fest in an unofficial time of 1.47.17 (the joy of Strava stalking!).  Last weekend Faith Cowell ran her second marathon in a month as she ran the Betteshanger SVN event.  Perhaps she is going for a “Stevie King” haul in 2017!  Also this weekend Morgan West competed in the British Triathlon performance assessment weekend at Loughborough which acts as trials for the British Super Series. This involved a 400m swim time trial (4:53) on the Saturday followed by a 10km bike (16:36) and a 2.5km run (8:51) on the Sunday. This allowed morgan to finish in 31st position out of a very competitive field of 71 athletes.

Of course Saturday was a massive day for many people involved at Folkestone Running Club as the Folkestone parkrun was the finale in the ‘Park Bench to parkrun’ training camp, where 39 dedicated members graduated by completing their target 5k.  59 members originally signed up to the 10 week course which made the national parkrun website too on their blog.  FRC provided all of the volunteers for Saturday’s run and helped to cheer all 39 runners home.  Another member, Reana Herchenhan completed all of the training but was unfortunately injured for the big day, so her 5k parkrun has been put on hold for a short period.  Reana was still there to support all of her club mates.

The 39 to complete the parkrun were;  Nikki Parmenter (27.01), Shelley Godden – Duske (27.05), Lorraine Young (27.30), Anna Hegarty (28.19), Caz Gonsalves (29.50), Adele Chapell (30.21), Debra Reene (30.30), Maria Nash (31.08), Tony Puxley (31.39), Verush Stephenson (31.42), Russell France (31.43), Verity Ingleston (31.43), Liz Smith (32.01), Louise Newton (32.25), Gerry Duffield (32.32), Mandy Verity (32.33), Zoe Godden (32.57), Hayley Kluczynski (33.09), Fiona Godden (33.11), Kelly Flannery (33.48), Sarah Fitter (33.54), Jane Bishop (33.54), Marian Edgeworth (33.58), Samantha Burden (34.23), Ashleigh Pearson (34.34), Penny Aspinall (37.04), Jess Harman (37.05), Danielle Anson (38.11), Nicola James (38.14), Paul James (38.14), Lorraine Jones (38.16), Paula Griffiths (38.33), Sandra Martin (38.34), Penny Arnold (38.35), Natacha Brouart (38.38), Lacey Carey (39.47), Ileana Fernandes (40.39), Kerrylee Hodgkinson (40.50) and Bethan Rivett (time not known).
