Winning weekend for Folkestone Men and more County success for Emily!


It’s been another busy weekend for Folkestone Running club members, especially for those preparing for spring marathons, however the winter season hung on for one last Cross Country event with the National Intercounties Championships held on Saturday at Prestwold Hall Loughborough. Emily Chambers was yet again running for Kent after a brilliant debutant season in the discipline finishing the tough 5k event in the top half of the field in 124th place out of 278 competitors.

Sunday was the club’s busiest day for a while with a total of 16 members taking part in either the Lydd Half Marathon or the 20Miler.

In the Half Marathon the Folkestone men had a great result picking up the Mens Team prize with Phil Hoyland 4th in a time of 1.16.06, closely followed by Lloyd Worsley, 5th in 1.16.14 and Andy Fletcher, 7th in 1.16.22. Dave Weekes was the 1st Vet 50 in a time of 1.24.16 and 15th overall, Jonathan Vickery was 4th Vet 40 in a time of 1.31.14 and 32nd overall, Chris Woolgar was 3rd Vet 60 in 1.37.49 and 48th overall and Richard Fowles was 4th Vet 50 and 51st overall in a time of 1.38.31. Tony Scott was 10th Vet 45 and finished in 72nd place in 1.44.04, Aldous Hoskins, 102nd in 1.50.50, Vicky Scott, 6th Senior Female and 105th in 1.51.01, Jenny Quinn 4th Vet 35 and 113th in a new PB time of 1.52.24, John O'Hara, 3rd Vet 55 and 123rd in 1.52.45. Andrew Smith, 145th in 1.57.46 and Carolyn Lewis, 5th Vet 50 and 185th in 2.06.02.

In the 20 miler just back from her travels in Australia was Caroline Curtis, 7th Vet 45 and 142nd overall in a time of 2.40.28, Catherine O’Connor, 9th Vet 45 and 158th in 2.44.11, Danielle Ingleston, 164th, 2.44.51, Gary Brazier 525th, 3.34.41 and Kate Lancefield 695th in 4.19.20.

Alan Randall and Jane Wren have had a trip away to the sun this weekend, running in the Barcelona Marathon finishing in 11033rd and 13391st places respectively.

Finally the Parkrun results for the weekend were, Levi Attwell, 7th in a time of 18.30, James Stroud, 8th in 19.39, Nick Steele, 9th in 19.41. Caroline Curtis was the first lady to finish in a new PB time of 21.12, Chris Addison was next to finish in 22.07 then Paul Bartlett, 22.14, Kirsty Wilson, 23.30, another PB, Stuart Erskine, 24.13, John O’Hara, 24.41, Richard Pickering, 24.45, Malcolm Gibbs, 25.05, Linda Robson, 26.33 another PB, Leah Attwell, 29.59 and Joanne Miller 38.19.

About Us

Folkestone Running Club is a small friendly club for runners with ability ranging from elite to those that run less competitively, in Folkestone and surrounding areas in Kent. We also have a partnership club Folkestone Running Club Juniors for the under 13 age group. 

All adults wishing to join should be capable of running a 5k and be willing/able to join in the workout sessions put on by the coaches.
