Morgan finishes season in style

At a chilly Foots Cray Meadow yesterday Folkestone Senior Men and Juniors raced in the latest leg of the Kent Cross Country League. For the Juniors this was their final race in this year’s league and Morgan West saved the best until last by finishing in 3rd Place in the Under 20 Mens race in a time of 17.28 on the 5k course, ending the season in 9th place overall. Joe Bruce and Olivia Young also had a good season with Joe finishing in 16th place yesterday in 11.43 over 3k and 9th place overall in the Under 13 Boys category. Olivia Young had a brilliant first season in the tough Under 15 Girls category finishing yesterday in 39th place in a time of 18.55 over the 4k distance and 25th overall in a field on 90 competitors.
In the Senior Mens race Ian McGilloway led the Folkestone men home over the 10k course finishing in 36th place in a time of 38.05. Next to finish was Nick Steele in 55th place, 39.59 then Thomas Leaver 62nd in 40.14. Dominic Woolford was 65th in 40.34, Tristan Bruce 96th in 42.13, John Hill, 99th in 42.21, Chris Woolgar 175TH in 48.57 and Grahame Eke 214th in 60.06.
The Mens team of 4 to score finished in a great 6th place out of 21 teams and is currently in 10th place overall with one race left to go. Despite not having a team of 12 yesterday Folkestone are in 7th place in the 12 to score based on the previous two races so we need a good turn out at the final race in February in order to improve our position.
There wasn’t much improvement to the weather today with club members out and about in Ashford and Whitstable. Torben Jessen, Jamie Whitham, Tony Scott and Diane Parsons were racing in the Owler Half Marathon in Ashford. There were some fine performances with Torben finishing in 4th place overall and 1st Vet 50 in a time of 1.32.42. Torben was followed by Jamie Whitham in 1.42.22, Tony Scott in a time of 1.54.46 and Diane Parsons in a time of 2.10.14. Also in Ashford running the Owler 10k was Jason Ransley who had a brilliant race finishing the 10k in 2nd place and was also 2nd Vet 40 in a time of 42.49.
In Whitstable racing the MoRun 10k , Liam Cumber posted a great new PB of 44.56 with Andy Hadlow also running well finishing in a time of 48.09. In this fantastic event Liam raised £130 for mental health awareness.
In a complete contrast, Caroline Curtis and Sue Elkins have been basking in the heat of Cyprus having a lovely but challenging time racing in tough conditions in the Cyprus 4 day challenge which consisted of a 6k time trial, 11k uphill trail run, multi terrain Half Marathon and 10k run! Caroline was on brilliant form entering all four events and finishing as 1st women in the 50 to 54 age group for the series overall. Sue also had a great time running in the 10k. Watch this space for a full report on this event from Caroline next week.
