Weekend race report

The Kent Veterans cross country took place on Saturday 1stDecember at central Park Dartford.   Despite the wet conditions 8 Folkestone runners showed that you do not let age get in the way as they braved the tough twisty short sharp inclined course.

In the Vet 40’s category Ian McGilloway finished the 9k course in an incredible 9th position in 34.06

In the V45’s Tristan Bruce came home in 19th place in a time of37.06

Torben Jessen finished strong in a time of 37.36 and can proudly say he is the 7th best in Kent for the Male V55 age group. In the men’s V60 Chris Woolgar ran 5k’s in 22.36 finishing in 14thposition, with Grahame Eke running the same course in 27.01 finishing 18th best in Kent for the V65’s

Catherine O’Connor was first home for the ladies on the 5k course in 24.47 finishing 17th with Gail Turbutt chasing to finish 19th in 25.13 for the V45 women. Tina Eke can triumphantly say she is 7th best in Kent for the women 55 age group as she pushed hard in the tricky conditions in 29.50

Also the same day, Julie Gibbs ran in the wind rain and mud saying ‘it was one of the hardest half marathons’ she has ever run but reminded herself that she was and is fundraising for mind in the advent challenge at Betteshanger.  Julie ran 2:30.23 and her husband Malc finished in 2:27.28

Running the same event Tony Scott took the challenge of running 16 miles admitting he could not feel his arms or legs by the time he stopped.   Another event though completed and although tough, running does give that sense of huge achievement which all runners this weekend should be proud of.

Sunday saw the Thanet 10 mile event sweeping runners along, again in windy conditions. Stevie King was first home for Folkestone in 1:23.25.10.  With new member Damien Spriggrunning with Hayley Kluczynski who both finished in a time of 1:41.50.35
