ParkRun Challenge

Folkestone Running Club runners are drawn from a hat where they then aim to beat their season’s best time by more than their opponent.  The one with the best score progresses to the next round in the ‘A Cup’ challenge.  Those knocked out in the first round were then entered into the ‘B Cup’

Starting in 2018 Saturday saw the final between Aldous Hosking and Phil Maull in the ultimate A Cup and Kirsty Wilson and Kevin Newman in the B Cup

The club came out in force either to run volunteer or spectate at the final braving the icy cold conditions.

Aldous ran his seasons best and now club Champion in a percentage time of 101.9 beating runner up Phil Maull who scored 96.4

Kevin Newman in the B Cup ran a 30 second season best of 102.3 beating Kirsty Wilson despite running a huge 14 second personal best coming home in 101.1.  It was nail biting stuff whilst we eagerly waited for the results announced after the parkrun.

Thanks goes to Tim Warren and Darren Crew for thinking up the idea and running the event.

Overall the club’s results at the parkrun were:

Andrew Fletcher 17.59 who was second finisher with Nick Steele hot on his tail third finisher in a time of 18.08.  B cup champion was next Kev Newman 18.58 and then Jamie Whitham 19.12

The only other piece of action this weekend for FRC was Faith Cowell running in the North East marathon club 6 hour winter wonderland challenge in Newcastle.  It certainly was a challenge of 1.6 mile loops around a very snowy icy slip slide Leazes Park.  Our Wonder woman ran the marathon in 5 hrs 08.
