This weeks news at Folkestone RC .....

It was very tough conditions for the 12th Folkestone Half Marathon on Sunday.  The hot sun was beating down on the way out from Folkestone to Hythe along the coast and then on the turnaround was a very welcome but nonetheless hard wind against the already tired runners.   The race is well supported by members of the public, the marshals and other FRC members clapping and cheering the runners on.  If it wasn’t for the support of our fellow club members many of us would have given up! 

 Lloyd Worsley came in first man overall in a fantastic time of 1:15:14  Worsley and fellow team mates Torben Jessen 1:28:25 and Andrew Noble 1:31:31 also won the first men’s team prize.

The First FV50 prize was won by Tracy Wilkinson-Begg in a time of 1:36:13 and Caroline Curtis won the first FV45 trophy in a time of I:43:24.  Torben Jessen also won the First MV50 for his time.

Other times for the FRC runners – Stuart Sprinks 1:33:19, Christopher Woolgar 1:41:01, Richard Fowles 1:42:02, Barry Hogben 1:47:23, Catherine O'Connor 1:48:31, Anthony Scott 1:52:29, Vicky Scott 1:58:07, Richard Dyer 1:57:36, Alan Vigrass 2:03:29, Jane Wren 2:05:56, Alan Randall 2:10:56, Hazel Green 2:11:35, Deirdre Coombs 2:15:44, Jenny Whitehead 2:19:56, Philip Maull 2:26:47, Aaron Thompson 2:27:22 and Kate Lancefield 2:50:21

In Berlin, Deborah Jeffery ran the Berlin Marathon, one of the world-famous marathon majors,  in a time of 3:13:48 – 22nd Female overall.

Elsewhere Faith Cowell ran the Robin Hood Marathon in Nottingham in a time of 4:43:36 and John O’Hara ran the Hull Marathon in a time of 4:26:39

At the home parkrun this week on the Leas Levi Atwell was first FRC runner home in time of 19:11, followed by Mark Ellerby in a PB time of 19:16, Joe Bruce 19:50, Aldous Hosking 23:08, Anthony Scott 23:13, Carolyn Lewis in a PB time of 26:00, Malcolm Gibbs 26:56, Richard Dyer 27:24, Julie Gibbs 27:55, Anna Hegarty 28:06, Russell France 29:27, Leah Atwell 33:36, Paul James 35:14, Nicola James 36:44, Alfie Lancefield 39:21 and Kate Lancefield 39:28

Stephen King took part in the Haga parkrun in  Gothenburg, Sweden,  completing the course in a time of 27:17

About Us

Folkestone Running Club is a small friendly club for runners with ability ranging from elite to those that run less competitively, in Folkestone and surrounding areas in Kent. We also have a partnership club Folkestone Running Club Juniors for the under 13 age group. 

All adults wishing to join should be capable of running a 5k and be willing/able to join in the workout sessions put on by the coaches.
