The Summer Handicap, A night of the 5000m's, Outlaw Hoskins and the Parkrun Challenge

The Summer Handicap Race was held on Tuesday 24th July and held at a different venue this year.  It took place at the Hythe and Saltwood Sailing Club and was a 4 mile out and back run along the seafront to Sandgate.  Well done to our 2018 handicap winners:- Zoe Neale (buggy assisted!), Hayley Kluczynski- 1st Lady, Ray Johnson 1st Male, Nikki Goodwin Fastest Lady and Nick Steele Fastest Male. Many thanks also to Chris Addison, his wife Angie and Debbie Jeffery for preparing and serving the excellent BBQ. Dave Smyth did an excellent job with the handicapping and producing the results, Tina and Grahame Eke with the timekeeping and Dave Denyer with the course measurement and marking.

Thursday night was the Night of the 5000m held by Invicta East Kent Athletics Club on the track in Canterbury.  5 different starts for various times starting at 6pm through to 8pm.  Stephen King (25:31:42),  Jane Wren (25:43:32) and Angela Warren (27:11:73) ran in the Under 30 Minutes Start, Caroline Curtis (21:21), Richard Fowles and Alan Randall (24:57) in the Under 25 minutes Start and Tim Warren(19:15) in the Under 20 minutes.

Aldous Hosking became an official Outlaw by completing the Outlaw Triathlon in 12 hours 42 minutes.  This Triathlon is 2.4 mile swim (1:21:55), 112 mile bike ride (06:06:09) and all followed by a Marathon (26.2 Miles) in 4:47:09. (The same distances as an official Ironman). .

More FRC members took up the Parkrun Challenge this Saturday at the Folkestone Parkrun up on the Leas.  Going through to join Nikki Goodwin in the next round are Stephen King, Catherine O’Connor, Tim Warren, Alan Randall, Malcolm Gibbs and Andy Richardson.

This week Ian Mc Gilloway was 2nd overall and first FRC member through the finish funnel in 18:05, followed by David Gillett 18:47, Tristan Bruce 19:27, Tim Warren 19:45, Dominic Woolford 19:53, Paul Bartlett 20:10, Deborah Jeffery, 2nd lady overall, in 21:21, Catherine O’Connor 22:41, Clive Allon 22:49, Stuart Erskine 22:55, Anthony Scott 23:00, Andrew Richardson 23:06, Richard Fowles 24:05, Vicky Scott 24:18, Alan Randall 24:22, Carolyn Lewis 25:33, Richard Dyer 25:37, Stephen King 25:59, Malcolm Gibbs 26:50, Angela Warren 28:56, Kirsty Gardiner 28:58, Julie Gibbs 29:40, Jane Wren 30:15, Helen Francis 30:35, Trudi Curd 49:33

At Knowsley Parkrun Kirsty Wilson came 3rd Lady Overall in a time of 23:39 and over the other side of the world (nearly!) Lloyd Worsley ran in his first local parkrun in San Francisco at Crissy Field in a time of 16:37 – interestingly enough the first 8 runners there were all first timers.

About Us

Folkestone Running Club is a small friendly club for runners with ability ranging from elite to those that run less competitively, in Folkestone and surrounding areas in Kent. We also have a partnership club Folkestone Running Club Juniors for the under 13 age group. 

All adults wishing to join should be capable of running a 5k and be willing/able to join in the workout sessions put on by the coaches.
