A chilly Cross Country and Parkrun

Twenty Five club members braved the chilly conditions at Brands Hatch to take part in the Kent Cross Country Championships on Saturday. First to race were the Under 13 Girls with Olivia Young and Emily Mackenzie finishing well in 29th and 42nd place respectively. Callum Hickman was next to run in the Under 13 Boys race and had a strong run in his first Championships finishing in 68th place. Emily Chambers continued her brilliant XC season for the Club, finishing her race in the Under 17 Womens event in 5th place and again receiving a call up for the County. Morgan West also ran well in the Under 17 Men, yet again finishing in the top 20 in 15th place.

In the Senior Mens Race in a high quality field, Andy Fletcher led the Club home in 43rd place, close behind was Phil Hoyland in 54th place, followed by Nick Steele in 72nd place. Dave Weekes finished in 88th place, Dave Smyth 173rd, Chris Woolgar 182nd, Clive Allon 208th, Aldous Hosking 210th, Grahame Eke 213th and Alan Randall 218th. The Mens team of 6 to score finished in 10th place. 

In the Senior Womens race, the Folkestone ladies also ran well with Tracy Wilkinson-Begg finishing in 14th, reinforcing her place in the top 20 of the County’s Womens XC runners. Next to finish was Nikki Goodwin in 23rd place and Caroline Curtis in 58th. Catherine O’Connor finished in 78th place, Catriona Watts 91st, Gail Turbutt 92nd, Tina Eke 112th, Margaret Whitham 124th, Lisa Smith 126th and Kate Lancefield 128th. The Womens team of 3 to score finished in 5th place and the team of 6 to score also finished in 5th place.

Folkestone Parkrun this week – Jean Paul Jeffery was the first FRC member through the finish funnel in a time of 18:53, followed by David Gillett 19:12, Darren Crew 19:46, Andrew Noble 20:02, Chris Addison 20:39, Deborah Jeffery was first lady overall in a time of 20:51, Anthony Scott 21:35, Stuart Erskine 22:39, Deirdre Coombs in a new PB time of 23:52, Richard Dyer 24:50, John O’Hara 25:39, Jody Stoakes 26:31, Andrew Smith 26:34, Trudi Curd 26:47, Linda Robson 27:05, Philip Maull 27:19, Kirsty Gardiner 27:38, Carolyn Lewis 27:49, Julie Gibbs 28:00, Russell France 29:11, Paul James 31:36, Elizabeth Smith 33:57, Rebecca Warren 37:08, Tim Warren 37:09

About Us

Folkestone Running Club is a small friendly club for runners with ability ranging from elite to those that run less competitively, in Folkestone and surrounding areas in Kent. We also have a partnership club Folkestone Running Club Juniors for the under 13 age group. 

All adults wishing to join should be capable of running a 5k and be willing/able to join in the workout sessions put on by the coaches.
