Brighton Marathon, Park Run and Junior News .....
5 members of Folkestone Running Club pounded the streets of Brighton for the Brighton Marathon weekend. They were helped and cheered along the way with a band of supporters from the club as the temperatures soared this Sunday.
The 26.2 mile route takes the runners around the sights of the City including the Royal Pavilion, Brighton Dome, the i360 tower, the North Laine, Peace Statue, Kemp Town, Hove Lawns and more.
First home was Catriona Watts in a time of 4:02:57, followed closely by Aldous Hosking (4:05:52), first time ‘Marathoner’ Jennifer Quinn (4:20:19), Simon Coffey (4:35:57) and last but definitely not least Faith Cowell in an impressive sub 5 hour time of 4:37:21
Also on Sunday junior member Morgan West competed in the first round of the British Youth Super Series at the British Duathlon Championships that were held at the Bedford Autodrome Motor Circuit. West ran the 2.3k run (7:43), 10k bike (18:15) and 1.5k run (5:21) to finish in 32nd place out of 54.
On Saturday 21 Folkestone Runners took part in the Folkestone Park Run. Deborah Jefferey not only came 1st lady but she also set a new FV45 course record in a PB time of 19:21 Lloyd Worsley was second man in a time of 16:54 followed by David Gillett (17:21), Tim Warren (18:47), Jean Paul Jefferey (19:04), Deborah Jefferey (19:21), Christopher Woolgar (21:43), Anthony Scott (21:56), Richard Fowles (22:13), James Long (23:37), Caroline Curtis (24:17), Malcolm Gibbs (24:39), Deirdre Coombs (24:47), Angela Saunders (26:09), Richard Dyer (26:15), Emma Long (26:55), Lucy Weekes (26:56), Kirsty Gardiner (28:31), Kelly Flannery (29:07), Karen Puttock (29:56), Caron Inder (35:56) and ‘tail’ runners Alan Randall, Jane Wren (and George) (45:29)
Marathon supporter Alan Vigrass made a weekend of it in Brighton and ran in the Hove Promenade Park Run in a time of 23:59
Further afield in Paris at the Bois de Bologne Park Run Elizabeth Tew ran the 5k course in 28 minutes and 33 seconds

Folkestone Running Club is a small friendly club for runners aged from 13 years, or Year 8, upwards and ability ranging from elite to beginners in Folkestone and surrounding areas in Kent. We also have a partnership club Folkestone Running Club Juniors for the under 13 age group.
