What a busy week for FRC despite the heat .....

Tuesday night was the grand finale of the East Kent Relay races and this one was hosted by Canterbury at the IEK Track.   It was very close for some of the teams and everyone waited with baited breath for the results to be confirmed for the overall series.    Folkestone took home a number of First place trophies.  In the A Leagues first place were the Senior Mens Team, Senior Ladies Team, V50 Men, V45 Ladies and V55 Ladies.  In the B League first place was won by the Senior Mens Team, V45 Ladies Team and the V55 Ladies Team.

Wednesday night saw Anthony Scott take first V40 male in the Bedgebury Pinetum 10k Series Race Two coming in 10th place in 51:50 

Four FRC members braved the heat and a stiff breeze to take part in the 2nd Lydd Evening Sprint Triathlon series, consisting of a 500m open-water swim, a 20 km cycle and a 5.2 km run.
First back was Andrew Smith (20th Male) with a swim time of 9:55, T1 & bike 39:54, and T2 & run 26:58 finishing in 01:16:47.  Second, on her debut triathlon, was Caroline Curtis (10th Female) who did the swim in 13:57, T1 & Bike in 44:08, and T2 & run in 24:12 with a total of 01:22:17. Caroline was the fastest female on the T2 & run section. Next was Chris Woolgar (29th Male), with a swim of 18:11, T1 & bike 43:59, and T2 & run in 25:32 (total 01:27:42), just ahead of Stevie King (30th Male), who swam in 15:39, T1 & bike 45:01, and T2 &run 29:55 (total 01:30:35)

3 FRC members took part in the first of the 12th Rye Summer Classic Series took place this Friday and it was a scorcher.  This is a series of 3 races – 2 x 10k’s and 1 x 5k on the first Friday of the month – July, August and September.  The 10k race starts at the Rye Harbour Sailing Club and is an out and back route to Winchelsea Beach along the harbour road.  Anthony Scott was first FRC member home in a time of 47:20, followed by Jane Wren who was 1st V50 woman (50:47) and Alan Randall (52:31)

Andrew Noble made a weekend of it in the Brecon Fans Race Weekend 2017 – 2 classic races with lots of free beer and food.  Day 1: Fan y Big Horseshoe Race.  A perfect 10 mile skyline route, starting and finishing in lovely Llanfrynach.  Noble came 31st in the race (6th MV50) in a time of 1:32:45   Day 2: Pen y Fan Race. A “short” race up the highest mountain in Souther Britain, packing nearly 2000 feet of ascent into 3.5 miles.  The first run took place in 1986 having since been tackled by all the top UK fell runners and has a record time of 30 minutes that many consider unbreakable!!  Noble finished 49th position (9th MV50) in 50:51  This was broken up into summit time 36:15 and descent time 14:36   

Lloyd Worsley was first man home in the 8th Romney Marsh 10k in the fantastic time of 32:56.  Simon Coffey was next FRC member (41:48), followed by Stuart Erskine (42:35), Catherine O Connor 3rd Lady (1st FV45) (46:54), Jennifer Quinn 1st FV35 (52:10), Vicky Scott 1st Senior Female (52:28), Deirdre Coombs 1st FV60 (54:30), and Kelly Colquhoun-Flannery (1:01:30)  The Ladies O’Connor, Quinn and Scott took the Ladies Team Prize.

The Pretty Muddy Run in aid of Cancer Research took place in Mote Park Maidstone this Sunday and several Folkestone Runners donned their pink clothing and took part for this very good cause (although it wasn’t very pink by the time they had finished!)  Amongst those taking part were – Jane Wren, Hayley Kluczynski, Adele Chappell and Shelley Godden-Duske.

At Folkestone Park Run this week James Stroud took 2nd Male finishing place in a time of 17:31, Deborah Jeffery 1st lady finisher in 19:57 and Zoe Neale 2nd lady finisher in 22:55  Others taking part were Jordan Mosses (21:17), Anthony Scott (21:54), Brian Davis (22:49), Andrew Richardson (22:52), Vicky Scott (24:43), Graham Eke (25:27), Malcolm Gibbs (25:31), Bethanie Lewis with a new PB (25:57), Julie Gibbs (27:53), Aldous Hosking (28:07), Jennifer Quinn (28:08), Richard Dyer (28:54), Carolyn Lewis (28:56), Carol Gonsalves (29:51), Tina Eke (30:06), Claire Yates (30:21), Margaret Whitham (30:23), Trudi Curd (30:24), Shelley Godden-Duske (31:57), Shannon Quinn (32:35), Caron Inder (33:29), Lloyd Worsley (35:14), Joanne Miller (35:32), Nicola James (38:12), Paul James (38:14) and Ileana Fernandes (40:54)

FRC Tourism this week was Eastbourne – Darren Crew (19:34) and Jody Stoakes (25:20), Ashford – Alan Vigrass (24:54), Newport – Anna Hegarty in a PB time for that course of 29:17, Wroclaw, Poland – Stephen King (26:12), and Tonbridge – Andrew Fletcher 2nd Male position (17:07)

Folkestone Running Club is a small friendly club for runners with ability ranging from elite to those that run less competitively, in Folkestone and surrounding areas in Kent. We also have a partnership club Folkestone Running Club Juniors for the under 13 age group. 

All adults wishing to join should be capable of running a 5k and be willing/able to join in the workout sessions put on by the coaches.
